Ramwod was a Benedictine abbot who served at St. Emmeram's Abbey in Regensburg during the late 10th century. Born in Trier around 900, he initially belonged to the community at St. Maximin's Abbey. In 975, Wolfgang of Regensburg summoned him to lead the monastery in Regensburg, where he became its first autonomous abbot. Under his leadership, the abbey flourished as a significant religious and intellectual hub, gaining fame for its sophisticated work in book illumination.
Life and leadership

After his early years in Trier, Ramwod moved to Regensburg to oversee St. Emmeram's Abbey. As an autonomous leader, he helped transform the institution into a major center of learning. His tenure was marked by the abbey's growing reputation for producing high-quality illuminated manuscripts, which established the monastery as a prestigious site for religious scholarship during his lifetime.
Veneration and patronage

He is recognized as a blessed figure within the church. Because he experienced a period of blindness lasting two years before his vision was restored, he is traditionally regarded as a patron for individuals suffering from optical ailments. His feast day is observed on June 17.
