Spermophilus veya gelengi, Sciuridae (sincapgiller) familyasının Marmotini oymağına bağlı Kuzey yarımkürede yayılım gösteren bir kemirgen cinsidir. Latince cins adı Spermophilus "tohum sever" anlamına gelir.
Etimoloji
Gelengi (< geleŋi) ya da geleni kelimesinin aslı keleni olup Orta Türkçe dönemindeki kelegü sözüne dayanır. Orta Türkçe dönemine ait Divânu Lügati't-Türk'te "kelegü" (Arapça: كَﻻَكوُ) biçiminde geçer ve "geleni, tarla sıçanı soyundan bir hayvancık" olarak tanımlanır.
