Maria Consiglia Addatis was an Italian nun born in Naples in 1845. After experiencing life as an orphan, she sought spiritual solace through her devotion to the Eucharist and the Holy Spirit. Following a period in a cloistered order, she felt a specific calling to care for orphans. This led her to join the Third Order of Saint Francis in 1876, where she adopted the religious name Sister Maria Consiglia dello Spirito Santo.
Life and work
After being raised by various relatives following her parents' deaths, Addatis focused on her inner faith. She eventually founded the Sisters Servants of Our Lady of Sorrows of Nocera de' Pagani. Her religious life was characterized by a deep trust in Providence and a devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows.
Veneration
The process for her recognition began at the diocesan level before moving to Rome. In 2016, Pope Francis authorized a decree recognizing her heroic virtues. Consequently, she is currently recognized as a venerable within the Catholic Church.
