Indio Solari (Carlos Alberto Solari, 1949–2026) was an Argentine musician and singer. He was the lead vocalist and frontman of the influential rock band Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, which he co-founded in 1976 in La Plata. After the band split in 2001, he built a successful solo career with his group Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado, and he became a widely recognized figure of Argentine counterculture.
Early career
Before forming his best-known band, Solari moved within the local underground scene in La Plata. In the 1970s he met Guillermo Beilinson, Skay's elder brother, in a small fabric printing workshop. In 1976 Solari began a project with the Beilinson brothers and other musicians, which became Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota. He stayed as the band's singer until its dissolution in 2001.
Solo career and legacy
In 2004 Solari launched a solo career with Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado, with whom he released several studio albums. He was known for cryptic lyrics and strong drawing power, especially among working-class youth. His 2017 concert in Olavarría, held at a rural property, is considered the largest open-air rock concert in the history of Argentine rock, with over 250,000 attendees. Solari died on 5 June 2026 at the age of 77.
