In the Grey is a 2026 American action thriller written, produced, and directed by Guy Ritchie. The film follows a lawyer and her team of fixers as they try to recover a one-billion-dollar debt from a criminal organization. It stars Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, and Rosamund Pike, and was produced by Black Bear Pictures. It was released in North America on May 15, 2026, and received mixed reviews from critics.
Production and casting
Guy Ritchie announced the project in May 2023, with Black Bear International handling international sales as it was brought to the Cannes Film Market. Cavill, Gyllenhaal, and Gonzalez, who had all worked with Ritchie before, were announced as stars, and more cast members joined later that year and in 2024. Filming took place in September and October 2023 on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, in locations including Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Las Teresitas beach area.
Release and reception
Lionsgate initially planned a January 2025 release but pulled the film in late 2024 because post-production was unfinished. Black Bear Pictures later took over distribution. The film opened in the United States in May 2026 and grossed about 27.8 million dollars worldwide. Critics gave it mixed reviews, with many praising its cast but finding its story lacking in originality.
