IShowSpeed, born Darren Jason Watkins Jr. on January 21, 2005, is an American influencer and online streamer. Known for the dramatic and energetic behavior he displays during his variety live streams and in-real-life streams, he is regarded as one of the most popular entertainers and internet personalities in the world. Watkins started on YouTube with gaming content before moving toward general entertainment, and he has also pursued a rapping career with a record label.
Early life
Watkins was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in the Bond Hill neighborhood. He received the nickname "Speedy" in childhood because of his athleticism. In 2020, a clip of him reacting aggressively to a video game was reposted by a media outlet, which led to conflict with his mother. He then moved to Detroit, Michigan, to live with his father, where he began livestreaming full-time.
Internet career
Watkins registered his YouTube channel in 2016 and began consistent livestreaming in 2017. His viewership grew sharply in 2021, largely through clips of his outbursts during streams that circulated as memes. He faced several platform bans, including a Twitch ban that was reversed in 2023, and his channel reached 10 million subscribers in 2022. In 2024, he began livestreaming while touring the world, drawing large audiences and international news coverage.
Music and recognition
Watkins signed with Warner Records to release his 2022 single "World Cup", which charted in several countries. He was named Breakout Streamer of the Year at the 12th Streamy Awards in 2022 and won Streamer of the Year at the 2024 and 2025 Streamer Awards.
