High Potential

High Potential is an American crime comedy drama television series created by Drew Goddard for ABC. It is based on the Franco-Belgian series HPI and stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted cleaner who becomes a police consultant. The series premiered on September 17, 2024, and was renewed for a second season, which premiered in September 2025, and later for a third season.

Premise

The series follows Morgan Gillory, a single mother of three who works as a cleaner at the Los Angeles Police Department. With an IQ of 160, she is classified as a high-potential intellectual. After she unexpectedly solves a complex case, she is recruited as a civilian consultant for the Major Crimes Division, where she is partnered with Detective Adam Karadec, whose disciplined, methodical approach often clashes with her intuitive and unconventional methods. A subplot follows her efforts to investigate the long-ago disappearance of her daughter's father.

Development and release

ABC gave the series a pilot order in September 2022, and it was picked up to series in May 2023. The show is based on the 2021 Franco-Belgian series HPI: Haut potentiel intellectuel. Showrunners changed during development, and ABC initially ordered only 13 episodes for the first season, partly because of Kaitlin Olson's commitments to another television series. The series is available to stream on Hulu.

Critical reception

The first season received largely positive reviews, with a high approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 critic reviews. Critics praised Olson's performance and described the show as a solid police procedural that builds on a familiar formula.
