Belgian nun and first superior general of the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul

Flore Bracaval

Flore Bracaval, known in religion as Mother Jeanne-Marie de Jésus Eucharistie, was a Belgian nun born in 1861 in Mouscron. After choosing a religious life over marriage, she joined the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul, an order that had been restored in the late 19th century. She played a pivotal role in transforming the congregation from a contemplative community into an apostolic one. Serving as the first superior general of this reformed institute, she oversaw its expansion and the establishment of various schools and missions.

Life and work

Following her studies in Belgium, Bracaval moved to Italy in 1894 to join the restored Angelic Sisters. She eventually became a novice mistress and held several leadership roles within the order. Driven by a desire to fulfill the original apostolic vision of the founders, she worked to reform the congregation's status. Under her leadership, the group expanded significantly, opening new houses and educational institutions across Italy and Brazil.

Veneration

After her death in Arienzo in 1935, her cause for beatification was introduced in 1953. She was later recognized as a venerable by Pope John Paul II on March 8, 1997. Today, the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul continue her legacy through their commitment to teaching, social assistance, and pastoral work.
