First Summer Uika (born 4 June 1990) is a Japanese television personality, actress and singer who was formerly an idol. She was born in Kyobashi, Osaka, and began her career as an actress in the theatre company Retort Kakushin before moving to Tokyo in 2013. She joined the idol group BiS, later formed the music group Billie Idle, and gained wide popularity from variety shows from 2019 onward, when her self-produced mix of traits drew attention.
Early career
Uika took up the drums in junior high school and later formed a rock band in high school, before deciding to pursue acting. After joining the Osaka-based theatre company Retort Kakushin in 2009, she performed under her birth name for several years while working part-time jobs. She then moved to Tokyo in 2013 with no fixed agency or job, and soon joined the idol group BiS under the name First Summer Uika.
Music and acting
After BiS disbanded in 2014, she formed Billie Idle in 2015 with former members and new recruits, and continued the group until its dissolution in 2019. From 2017 she belonged to the agency Cube, and she released her first solo digital single in 2021. She has appeared in films, television dramas and stage productions, and in 2024 she played Sei Shonagon in the NHK taiga drama Hikaru Kimi e.
Breakthrough on television
Her appearances on variety programmes from 2019 onward brought her popularity, built on a mismatched persona combining a Takarazuka-style hairstyle, strong Kansai dialect and sharp-tongued humour. She also hosted a late-night radio programme and received awards in 2024 and 2026 for her work as an entertainer.
