bridge spanning the mouth of the Tamsui River, Taiwan

Danjiang Bridge

Danjiang Bridge

Danjiang Bridge is a road bridge in Taiwan that spans the mouth of the Tamsui River and links the districts of Bali and Tamsui in New Taipei City. It is designed as a single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, with a 920-metre deck that carries road, rail and pedestrian traffic. The deck is supported by one pylon rising 200 metres. The bridge is a notable piece of infrastructure in the Taipei metropolitan area.

Planning and purpose

The Highway Bureau commissioned the bridge to connect the area to the national highway system. It was also intended to ease congestion on the Guandu Bridge, which lies further upstream on the same river. The project was expected to support the expansion of the Danhai Light Rail, part of the city's light rail public transport network.

Design competition

In 2015, Zaha Hadid Architects won an international competition to design the bridge. The firm worked with Leonhardt, Andrä and Partner and Sinotech Engineering Consultants on the project, which was selected from entries submitted in the competition.
