Amel Bent Bachir, known by her stage name Amel Bent, is a French-Algerian pop singer. She gained fame after reaching the semi-finals of the second season of the French television singing competition Nouvelle Star, and she is the best-selling artist to emerge from that competition. Bent later became a coach on several television talent shows, including The Voice Kids France and The Voice France.
Early career

Bent grew up in La Courneuve, a suburb of Paris, with an Algerian father and a Moroccan mother. Although she did not reach the finals of Nouvelle Star 2, producers noticed her, and she released her debut album, Un Jour d'été, in late 2004. The album sold more than 550,000 copies in France, but its success was largely driven by the single "Ma philosophie", which sold more than 500,000 copies and held the top spot in France for more than six weeks.
Later work

In 2012, Bent took part in the third season of the celebrity dance show Danse avec les stars, where she and her partner Christophe Licata finished second and won the show's Christmas special. For her single "Je reste" in 2011, she appeared alongside the actor Karl E. Landler. Between 2018 and 2019 she coached on The Voice Kids France, and she coached on The Voice France from 2020 to 2023 and again in 2026.
