TT Games Studios Limited (anteriormente conhecido como Traveller's Tales) é uma desenvolvedora de jogos eletrônicos britânica e uma subsidiária da TT Games. A Traveller's Tales foi fundada em 1989 por Jon Burton e Andy Ingram. Inicialmente uma pequena empresa focada em jogos próprios, ela ganhou destaque ao desenvolver títulos em parceria com grandes empresas, como Sega e Disney Interactive Studios. Em 2004, teve início o desenvolvimento de Lego Star Wars: The Video Game em colaboração com a Giant Interactive Entertainment, detentora dos direitos exclusivos de jogos eletrônicos da Lego. A Traveller's Tales adquiriu a empresa em 2005, e ambas se fundiram para criar a TT Games, com a Traveller's Tales passando a atuar como o braço de desenvolvimento da nova companhia.
História
Fundação e trabalho com a Disney e a Sega (1989–2007)
A Traveller's Tales começou a desenvolver jogos com a Psygnosis, que se destacou principalmente pela criação de efeitos 3D. Seu primeiro jogo foi Leander, também conhecido como A Lenda de Galahad. Com a Psygnosis, desenvolveu uma adaptação para jogos eletrônicos do Drácula de Bram Stoker, além de outras produções originais como Puggsy e Rascal. Graças a um acordo entre a Psygnosis, a Sony Imagesoft e a Disney Interactive Studios, a Traveller's Tales pôde produzir vários jogos baseados em propriedades da Disney, como o título do Mickey Mouse Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse e outros jogos baseados em filmes da Pixar, como Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue e Finding Nemo (estes dois últimos graças a acordos com a Activision e a THQ).[carece de fontes]?
A Traveller's Tales ficou mais conhecida, nas décadas de 1990 e início dos anos 2000, por sua colaboração como desenvolvedora parceira (second-party) da Sega na criação de jogos da franquia Sonic the Hedgehog — resultando em títulos como Sonic 3D Blast e Sonic R, produzidos em estreita cooperação com a Sonic Team da Sega. Ambos os jogos foram considerados feitos técnicos notáveis para o Mega Drive (Sonic 3D Blast) e o Sega Saturn (Sonic R), reforçando a reputação de excelência tecnológica que a empresa já havia conquistado com títulos como Puggsy, Mickey Mania e Toy Story. Além dos jogos da série Lego, seu portfólio inclui títulos da franquia Crash Bandicoot, dois jogos de As Crônicas de Nárnia, Super Monkey Ball Adventure, além de World Rally Championship e F1 Grand Prix para o PlayStation Portable.
Aquisição da Warner Bros e títulos da Lego (2007–presente)
A empresa foi adquirida pela Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment no final de 8 de novembro de 2007, mas continuou a operar de forma independente. Após o lançamento de The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), a Traveller's Tales passou a trabalhar exclusivamente em títulos da franquia Lego — embora outras subsidiárias da TT, como a TT Fusion, tenham continuado a utilizar outras propriedades intelectuais até o início da década de 2010. Embora alguns dos primeiros títulos de Lego tenham sido publicados pela LucasArts, a partir de 2011 a Warner também passou a atuar como a distribuidora exclusiva do estúdio.
Em 2015, a Traveller's Tales entrou no mercado de jogos que integram brinquedos físicos ao mundo virtual (toys-to-life) com Lego Dimensions, que utilizava uma base de brinquedo para inserir minifiguras e modelos Lego físicos no jogo, além de permitir a interação com a jogabilidade. O título incluía temas Lego já existentes, como DC Comics, The Lego Movie e O Senhor dos Anéis, bem como novas propriedades, a exemplo de Portal 2 e O Mágico de Oz. O jogo foi descontinuado em outubro de 2017.
A Traveller's Tales ganhou dois prêmios BAFTA, um de Melhor Jogabilidade com Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy e outro de Melhor Jogo Infantil do Ano por Lego Batman: The Videogame.
Em 11 de dezembro de 2018, a Traveller's Tales passou a se chamar TT Games Studios.
Em 20 de janeiro de 2022, uma reportagem publicada pelo Polygon detalhou a intensa carga de trabalho excessivo (crunch) enfrentada pelo estúdio durante o desenvolvimento de Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga; o texto relatava o descontentamento de dezenas de funcionários em relação à gestão, motivado pela frustração com prazos apertados, a cultura de *crunch* da empresa e ferramentas de desenvolvimento obsoletas. Além disso, o uso da NTT — um novo motor interno desenvolvido para substituir a tecnologia anterior da Traveller's Tales, numa tentativa de evitar o pagamento de royalties pelo uso de ferramentas de terceiros como Unreal Engine ou Unity — gerou controvérsia internamente, visto que muitos funcionários defendiam a adoção da Unreal Engine. A NTT provou ser de difícil utilização, fazendo com que a produção de algumas animações levasse horas a mais do que levaria no motor antigo. Como resultado, The Skywalker Saga acabou sendo o único jogo desenvolvido pela Traveller's Tales a utilizar a NTT, levando a empresa a decidir adotar a Unreal Engine em seus projetos futuros.
